Back again with the third installment of our Game Development Series. Today we're going to discuss the Artist's and the artwork that goes into creating games. Although it's pretty cut and dry, I will elaborate as much as possible to give you guys a full understanding of what this position entails.

So let's begin...

Obvious question, what is a game artist?
Somewhat of an obvious answer, artists create, visually, what the producers and programmers have cooped up inside their minds. They create sketch screens, sorta like the scenes in a comic book, to layout what is happening in the game at any particular level, battle or just character creation/biography. Artwork is laid out for pretty much every aspect of the game. Landscaping and scenery relies heavily on the artwork, if you can't visualize what's on paper, you're pretty much screwed. You would have lost your audience before you even got started.

Compensation for this position can vary from company to company and country to coountry, but there is a basic bottom line to this job. As a video game artist, you can look to make anywhere from $44,ooo to $102,000. So pick up those pencils and draw your heart out.

One Response so far.
