This weeks "blogger-sode" (episode, corney I know) is all about Fallout 3. Great game, love the innovation that was placed there and alot of creativity. What more can I say, this game emplores a fantastic mix of genres; shooter, RPG, adventure and survival-horror (a decent scare factor there as well). The sound effects are great, and I absolutely love the ragdoll effects on the enemies. I would love to tell you more about the music, unfortunately I didn't really pay much attention to it, sorry. Great game none-the-less.
Cons...hmmm, a bit repetitious when it comes to the shooting. The innovative, yet redundant V.A.T.S. (vault-assisted targeting system), is awesome fun to use, but it does lose its effectiveness after awhile. That's about all I have a problem with. Please keep in mind, not only is this my very own opinion to have and to hold, I am in NO WAY stating that the V.A.T.S. integration into this game is NOT good.
First off let me say that this game is huge! Lots of ground to cover, tons of baddies to vanquish, and lots of weapon making fun. Follow people or have them follow you. Good and Bad choices to be made in the game, which consequently alters your gaming experience. So let's get down to business...
You are born...
Don't go into the light! Just kidding, the light is your friend. It's the first thing you see when you are born. A name gets chosen, your sex is checked out (male/female) and a nifty Project Purity will give you a nice rendition of what you'll look like when you get older.
the Purity check allows you to see what you look like in about 20 years from birth. You can change the look of your character then; race, face and hair. From this point, a moment of sadness befells your father as you hear him shout "she's in cardiac arrest...", sadly your mother passes soon after your birth.
...everything happens pretty quickly from here on out. You learn a few basic movements and are introduced to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skill set up (Strength Perception Endurance Charisma Intelligence Agility Luck). That's pretty much it for now.
Here we are, about 9 years later. You're 10 and having a birthday party! You meet the usuals, your best friend Amata, Officer Gomez, and Paul Hannan. You end up coming across Amata's father who just so happens to be the Overseer for the Vault community. He has a stern look to his face, but he gives you your best birthday present yet, a Pip-Boy 3000, your lifeline to the Fallout world.
Speak to Amata and choose your dialog answers wisely. Depending on how friendly or unpleasant you want to be with her, she gives you a pretty nifty gift. A Grognak the Barbarian, issue 14 mint condition!
-immediately pull up your pip-boy and run through its functions to get familiar with its contents. Read the Grognak comic and your Melee Weapon skill is immediately increased by 1.With your birthday cake ruined, what do you do? Speak to Old Lady Palmer, and no matter how rude you are to her she still offers you one of her delicious Sweetrolls (which appears in your Pip-Boy item > aid screen. Eat it and gain +5 HP). What's a party without the local bully? We have Butch and his table of badboy losers. Butch demands that you give him the sweetroll you just got form Old Lady Palmer. There are many choices to the dialog and the further down the list you go the more angry Butch's response will likely be.
If you want to start a fight, go down the list and pick the response about Butch's mother and her alcohol problems. He will get up and punch you and the fight will be broken up by Officer Gomez. You can blame it on Butch, but it's better to stand up for yourself. Butch's friends, Wally and Paul have equally uninviting words to say. Wally asks you if you enjoyed his last party, but remembers that you didn't because you weren't invited. Paul gives some half-witted responses and then Amata shows up to ask what happened with Butch. All that's left here to do is to speak to Stanley at the bar. He fixed your Pip-Boy and also has a gift for you. Now speak with your Dad, he wants you to follow him because someone else has a gift for you. He speaks to his friend Jonas on the intercom...I wonder what kind of gift he has?
