"...Dante, you seek to rescue Beatrice from her fate...but you too will be judged for you sins. Sins that have marked you. Look to your own salvation...as well as hers..."
You are Dante, inspired by the real Dante Alighieri. A soldier who defies death in order to fight for the love of his life against immeasurable odds. You return home only to find that your love, Beatrice has been murdered and her soul carried away to the depths of hell. Hurt and enraged, you seek vengeance and redemption, and vows to bring her back.
You have been mislead all this time. The many deaths by your hand have seemed justifiable, but when death comes to take you at your last breath, you reject his offer and attempt to fight back. Thrown into the pits of hell itself, you will wield Death's Scythe and acquire Holy abilities to fight your way back to your love, and bring redemption back to your soul.
"...into the blind world we have now descended, put all fear and cowardice aside, I will be your guide through this eternal place where you shall hear the shrieks and see the tormented spirits...who all bewail the second death..."
It starts out as a rescue mission for your bride, but then quickly turns into a quest for salvation. Fighting the sins of your past, along with hordes of demonic beings, huge beasts, and the ultimate traitor Lucifer himself.
Throughout your journey, you will learn to wield Death's Scythe. A soul capturing weapon of devastating force. Light and heavy attacks make way for a mixture of powerful combos and aerial attacks.
You will also learn Holy abilities as well. The Righteous Path power will leave a trail of icy shards in your wake to damage foes. Martyrdom will have you sacrifice health and manna to deal a heavy amount of damage to surrounding enemies. Divine Armor will regenerate your heath and protect you from attacks.
With the power of Death's Scythe, you will also be able to tame certain beasts you come across during your journey. Of course in order to really take advantage of this skill you will have to rid the beast of its current rider. Certain tasks require you to tame a beast and use its strength to open doors, or pummel your foes.
As you travel through the Nine Circles of Hell, keep your eyes peeled. There are many hidden items scattered about. Climb, jump, make lateral movements...let nothing stand in your way from completing your quest and making it out of hell and to your ultimate reward, Beatrice...and Salvation.
