The new slimmer PS3, scheduled for release September 1 2009, has had a price reduction. It's about time Sony. The $299 price sticker for this new and sexy looking PS3 will surely draw in huge crowds, but there are a few questions you might want to ask yourself first. Will get to that in a sec. With the introduction of the new slim model, Sony is also lowering the price on the larger model (80G) to $299, and (160G) to $399. I don't think many people will fund the money for an 80G PS3 when they can get 120G for the same price.

With that being said, the new and "improved" Sony Ps3 will be 33% smaller, 36% lighter, and consumes 34% less power. Sounds good so far. The cooling system has been bumped up and Sony has upgraded their processor to 45nm. Hmm, sounds really good so far huh? The hard drive will also be upgradeable, and it is removable (no it won't void your warranty).

Also Sony has added a BRAVIA sync, which allows you to control your PS3 XMB over HDMI through your BRAVIA TV remote, and System Standby to shut off the PS3 when the BRAVIA TV is turned off. Added to that, the slimmer PS3 will be quieter than the previous model. Also available will be Blu-ray technology, and WiFi. There will also be a vertical stand offered.

For the bad news, Sony is not moving forward with the backwards compatibility of this slimmer PS3, and it also bids a due to the Install other OS. You guessed it, no more Linux.
